OAB/OCOB 2018 ELECTION INFORMATION

The OAB/OCOB

The Overtown Advisory Board/Overtown Community Oversight Board (OAB/OCOB) was created to encourage and support housing, job creation, economic and business development, educational opportunities and historic and cultural preservation within the Overtown community.

 

The OAB/OCOB membership consists of 11 adult member seats, of which: 5 are elected by the Overtown community, 5 are appointed by the District 5 Commissioner, and 1 is appointed by the Mayor.  There are also 2 youth member seats, of which: 1 is appointed by the District 5 Commissioner and the other is appointed by the body of the OAB/OCOB.

OAB/OCOB Appointments

Additionally, the District 5 Commissioner shall appoint 5 members to the OAB/OCOB, and the Mayor shall appoint 1 member.  Further, per Chapter 2, Article XI, Sec. 2-1052(d) of the Miami City Code, the District 5 Commissioner shall also appoint 1 youth board member, and the OAB/OCOB shall appoint 1 youth board member.

 

Applications for nominating candidates to the appointed seats are available at the Overtown N.E.T. Office, the Office of the City Clerk and the City Clerk’s website http://www.miamigov.com/City_Clerk

 

Members of the OAB/OCOB shall serve two-year terms, expiring during the month of September.  Notwithstanding, current members of the board may serve until the City Commission’s ratification of the results of the election of new board members held following the expiration of a term.

Commission Action

The City Commission will consider the confirmation of appointees at the Miami City Commission scheduled for September 13, 2018
