Training Opportunities

If you are looking for training opportunities to further your career, or are seeking to enhance your growth in the workforce, subsidized training is available (dependent upon funding) for those who qualify. The WIOA department offers vocational skills training to individuals looking to obtain licensures, degrees or certifications. Individual training account scholarships are available to provide funding for tuition, materials, uniforms, books, and additional fees depending on the chosen program. The programs offered through partnership with over 20 private and public institutions, are directly linked to jobs that are in high demand within the region and throughout the State of Florida. A WIOA career advisor will work closely with the individuals, once they have completed the program, to assist them in gaining employment opportunities directly related to their training field. The ultimate goals of the program are to ensure that the participants obtain and retain employment while gaining sufficient earnings.

WIOA orientations are scheduled every other Monday at the City of Miami location. Please contact us for further details.

Employers and Businesses

Professional Placement Network (PPN) database services are also available to businesses, corporations, or other employers looking to employ new hires. The City of Miami center is fully equipped to assist employers in finding qualified job seekers by using the database, Employ Florida Marketplace (EFM), which contains over 100,000 local registered individuals. Our trained staff will pre-screen qualified candidates, based on the employer’s needs and qualifications; eliminating the time, cost and effort involved in pursuit of such qualified and skillful individuals. We provide access to host job fairs and recruitment opportunities while providing free advertisement that directly meets the needs of the employers. Our services may include financial incentives such as On-the-Job Training (OJT); and Paid Work Experience (PWE), which take into consideration the hiring of targeted groups such as U.S. Veterans, Ex-Offenders, Dislocated Workers, At-Risk Youth, etc. Employers participating in OJT services will provide occupational training and development in the company’s work environment to new full-time hires and the employer can be compensated up to 75% of the wages paid. With the PWE, new hires will gain job-specific skills and work experience, and the employer will gain increased productivity for the allotted time frame. The salary of the new hire is compensated, at no cost to the employer. Employers may receive a tax credit (Work Opportunity Tax Credit – WOTC) that would reduce their federal income tax liability up to $9,600 per new hire, depending upon the qualified individuals. The City of Miami center is an equal opportunity employer/program agency committed to our clients, staff, and the community. For more information, please contact our specialists. We are here to assist you.
