Operations

This past year, the Department looked at several new ways to provide better service to the community. Some of these were:

•  "First Alarm Territories" were monitored throughout the year and adjusted where necessary to improve response time while also trying to evenly distribute the run load.
  • All apparatus in the department received ALS certifications and were outfitted with the necessary equipment to provide the best and quickest EMS service possible.
• A committee was created to work on the challenges associated with the new ultra-high-rise buildings going up in the city. Great progress had been made toward making this buildings more accessible and safer.
• Operational Guidelines continually are reviewed and updated as needed.

Other Accomplishments:

• The Accident Review Committee continued to determine which accidents involving Fire Department vehicles were preventable or non – preventable. The committee evaluated each accident and determine the type of remedial training necessary to prevent that accident from reoccurring. The committee would also determine if changes in current procedures were needed or if equipment was available to reduce the number of accidents occurring.
• The Miami Fire Departments division of emergency management along with the emergency response division worked closely with major league baseball and numerous other outside agencies in the preparation for All-star week hosted in Miami. This was a huge undertaking and a great success.
• The Training Division continued conduction Fire Officer 1,2, and 3 courses while at the same time trained new recruits to keep our staffing TO where it is needed.
• The communications division has continued working on a new computer aided dispatch system as well as a state of the art traffic preemption system to make our streets safer.

The citizens of Miami can continue to be proud of the service and dedication of the men and women of the City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue.
