About Downtown

Downtown Miami has continued to grow in importance over the past decade as a vital nerve center of international finance, commerce, culture, trade and tourism. Along with its growing global influence have come dramatic changes in downtown Miami's skyline. Sleek and modern towers now rise above Biscayne Bay housing regional and international headquarters of major multi-national corporations.

Downtown currently contains over 13 million square feet of office space and 5 million square feet of retail space providing employment to 104,000 people on a daily basis. Like the rest of Miami, downtown is very international in flavor with visitors from every place among the globe as part of the city's everyday ambiance. Located in the Downtown area, the Port of Miami serves more than 3 million passengers per year and is the number one cruise port in the world. Downtown Miami is also only 10 minutes away from Miami International Airport.

There are many outstanding attractions and public facilities in Downtown including the Miami-Dade Cultural Center, a public complex which includes the Miami-Dade County Main Library and History Miami Museum. The American Airlines Arena is home to the Miami Heat NBA basketball team. Bayside Marketplace, a retail complex on a 20-acre waterfront park site has become the number one tourist destination in South Florida. The Omni complex, a multi-use center containing a major hotel, entertainment and meeting facilities anchors the north end of Downtown. The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts opened in the fall of 2006. Miami-Dade College Wolfson Campus is located in the heart of the City.

The City of Miami has established four entertainment districts to promote/stimulate growth in their specified areas. Numerous clubs and entertainment venues have opened and others are slated to open soon. These districts are: 

• Park West Entertainment District - boarding State Road 836 to the north and Northwest 7th Street to the South; North Miami Avenue to the West and Biscayne Boulevard to the east.
  
  
• Brickell Village Entertainment District - boarding Southeast 8th Street to the north and Southwest 11th Street to the south; Southwest 1st Avenue to the west and Brickell Plaza to the east.
  
  
• Brickell Riverside Entertainment District - boarding the Miami River to the north and Southeast 8th Street to the south; Southwest 1st Avenue to the west to Brickell Avenue on the east.
  
  
• Media Entertainment District - boarding Northeast 15th Street to the north and Northeast 13th Street to the south; Florida East Coast (FEC) Railway Line on the west to Northeast 2nd Avenue on the east.
