The City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department has 12 aquatics sites. During the summer they
are all open for your enjoyment. Our seasonal pools open Memorial Day
weekend and close the day school starts. All of them offer Learn-to-Swim classes (youth to adults), recreation/open
swim time and classes like water aerobics and Mommy and Me. * classes vary by location.
Lessons are offered year-round for $45 for 8 lessons for
City of Miami residents and $65 for 8 lessons for non-City of
Miami residents.
There are different levels for learn-to-swim to allow your child to start with
basic skills and then move on to stroke technique and proper swim form. Each level
they graduate from makes them a stronger swimmer. Our instructors are American Red
Cross certified and enjoy the experience of teaching children how to be safe in and
near the water. Please refer to the list of pools below and contact your
nearest
pool to find out more about their Learn-To-Swim classes.

Ocean Rescue
The mission of the Ocean Rescue Section is to provide surf lifesaving on the City of Miami's public beach as a professional effort and as a means of public safety, preventing accidents while protecting lives and city property by providing prompt, skillful and cost-effective ocean rescue and lifesaving emergency services. These goals are met by creating the highest level of professionalism among our lifeguard ranks and by providing beachgoers with exceptional customer service and public relations; as well as, an education in beach and aquatic safety.
Guard on Duty: The City of Miami Parks and Recreation Ocean Rescue Section boasts 3 elevated and mostly enclosed lifeguard towers, spaced approximately 150 yards apart.
City of Miami'spublic beach is professionally guarded 365 days year
In case of emergency, Ocean Rescue Lifeguards will respond to approximately 1.5 miles of beach (including where no lifeguards are on duty). Lifeguards monitor the surf-style beach up to 100 yards offshore. Lifeguards can, and at times do, respond to emergency situations in Bear and Norres Cut. Numerous rescues have been made by Ocean Rescue Lifeguards in these areas.
